Observing Sites

Besides the regular SFAA Star Parties, like the Mt Tam and City Star parties, there are other areas in the Bay Area that offer good star gazing oportunities. For regularly scheduled star gazing or simply a nice place to set up your own scope, use the information below to find your viewing paradise.

The observing sites below are rated based upon a scoring system from 1 star (poor) to 10 stars (awesome). Sites are rated on various factors such as ease of access and travel, darkness of sky, fogginess and other points included at the whim of the reviewer. Some reviews provide a rating of each factor used in the overall score.

A lot of the site reviews were supplied by SFAA member, Stacy Jo McDermott. Stacy produced these articles for this site under the title, "Stacy's Star Gazing Getaways". Other site reviews offer a more simple and terse explaination.

Note: Information contained in these reviews may not be up to date to any changes in policy, access or description of the park or location being reviewed.

If you wish to contribute to this page, then please to send and email.
